Agent 422: Somnium unmasked

Solo development - For me, this game represents several key aspects of my development as a creator. Firstly, it was an important project for me to stretch my cinematic muscles. I implemented more protocols that I had learned on real-life film sets to see if I could achieve better results in the game development process.

As a game director, this project was also about something deeper. An interesting dynamic I explored, especially as someone who transitioned from filmmaking to game development, is the point at which a player stops being a mere spectator and becomes actively involved in the story. At what moment do you, as the audience, feel responsible for what happens? This question has been central in creating this project.

Solo development - This mini-project was focused on two key aspects for me.

First, I aimed to design a game concept that would be more scalable (through a more modular approach) than most of my previous projects (a more system-driven game rather than a more content driven game).

Secondly, there’s a question that always occupies my mind: How can I make the act of pressing a button as enjoyable and rewarding as possible? In this project, I explored this idea further by implementing a bold, adaptive soundtrack system (this system only activates after the tutorial level).

Solo development - Although this game was created with less of a clear starting point compared to the other games mentioned above, it remains an important project for me. It marks the birth of my first original IP, my first game with a clear beginning, middle, and end, my first character, and my first game to incorporate multiple gameplay loops. This project was the catalyst that made me decide to focus on game development.

The game was created in two weeks for the One Minute Game Jam. Although I have marked this as a solo development project, I did receive some help from a good friend along the way (from the YouTube channel The Game Dev Cave (#epicpartner)).
